Workshop: Using Game Editors to create Serious Games

Many people assume that creating a serious game requires a large expertise on graphical design and programming. Therefore, even when they have an idea for a serious game they seldom move forward because they fear not being able to implement it. This is especially true with teachers who frequently have great ideas for educational games that can motivate their students but are unable to bring them to live.
 
Although this concern has some real grounds, the new era of game editors already allows creating excellent games (and Serious Games) with a minimal (or none) knowledge of programming and graphical design, taking advantage of existing templates, free assets and other coding resources. In this workshop we'll see how to use three of these game editors, Construct2, RPG Maker and Visionnaire for this purpose.

• Construct2 is a multiplatform HTML5 game creator designed specifically for 2D action games and does not require coding skills. Instead games are created in a drag-and-drop fashion using a visual editor and a behavior-based logic system;
• RPG Maker allows users to create their own role-playing video games. All versions include initial premade tilesets, characters, and events which can be used in creating new games.
• Visionaire allows to create adventure games without requiring extensive programming skills. The game editor provides a huge set of existing "Actions" that can be combined in many ways to create games without writing a line of code.
